Welcome to Footprints Family Recipes!
Bread of life

Welcome to the recipe site that is all about recipes, cooking, baking and family cuisine! Thank you for making our recipes in the community so wildly successful and although we loved having it there, the site over time has gotten hugely bogged down, so we thought our recipes deserved a website within their own right, where everyone can visit and not become bogged down. We promise to continue to strive to make cooking a fun family affair with lots of excellent recipes, recipe and nutrition news, cooking information and fun things to do together for the whole family, plus we have added some new features, such as a weekly newsletter with weekly dinner menus and even more recipes and fun, recipe polls, it's own forums for you to have recipe and nutrition discussion and much more!

We invite you to add and share your own recipes, cooking tips and share in the fun with us. More family, more fun! That's how we see it! In the near future we will be adding recipe contests where you can win prizes, including cooking magazine subscriptions and many other prizes, so you will want to be sure to register and get involved.

Do subscribe to our newsletter if you would like to receive more recipes, weekly menus, news, recipe contest announcements and more fun family cooking activities in your mailbox. Please don't forget to sign up for our newsletter while you are here! We have oodles of great stuff to share with you!

How to Plan Menus, Shop and Save Money

Topic: Menus

I’ll admit it. My favorite thing to do is shop and boy can I spend money when I want to and even when I don’t want to, if I don’t have a plan. I know many of you are the same... Come on, admit it! I see it all the time when I am shopping. Families with huge carts full of junk foods and unnecessary items rolling through the aisles of the grocery store and at Wal-Mart. In fact, I had a young couple ahead of me in line one day who had 2 carts full of chips, pop, pretzels, candy and all junk food. They spent over $400.00 that day on junk food. I did not see one item that was healthy to eat. It was amazing! I asked them if they were having a party and they said, “No, we come here once a month to buy our snacks”. I had to try very hard to be polite and not to show my disgust. It made my stomach turn and I envisioned them dying before the age of 40 from heart attacks. I just said, “Wow! That’s a lot of money to spend on junk foods!” Of course, they just chuckled and shrugged it off like it wasn’t important and as they left the store, I wondered how they paid their bills or even if they did. The sad thing is, they paid with a credit card and I know that one day, if they don’t change their eating and spending habits, they will pay with their good credit if they have any, and most importantly, for sure they will pay with their health. It’s the over-indulgence that we here, in the USA see frequently and is a sure cause of higher insurance premiums and early mortality. What will it take to change us?

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

Topic: Weekly Blurb
It's been awhile since I wrote my weekly blurb. I am sorry about that. Life has been busy here and I have been lazy too. I think the last time I wrote was during the spinach scare. Thank God that is over, at least for now until the next food scare.

My husband moved his tax and accounting office out of the house and now during the tax season has been extremely busy for him. He's still working his other job and I have been having a hard time keeping up with his nutrition needs. He comes home, changes clothes, and is off again to his next job. It makes life interesting and cooking a challenge to say the least. I'll share with you some of the things I have been doing to try to accomodate him and feed him so he doesn't work his fingers literally to the bone and starve to death!

Fresh Spinach, A Huge Problem
Posted by Admin on Sep 25, 2006 - 01:43 PM (2154 Reads)
Topic: Nutrition
Fresh spinach is a huge problem for farmers and producers accross the country as the E Coli infections across the US spread. By yesterday, the E Coli infection had spread across 25 states and and killed several people and the USDA wasn't sure why it was still spreading, but in almost all cases, those people infected had very recently eaten fresh spinach despite the public announcements and warnings recently given.

Please do not buy fresh spinach at this time and be sure to wash all fresh fruits and vegetables well before serving at the family table.

Symptoms of the E Coli infection most often start with severe abdominal cramps and diarrhea/bloody diarrhea about seven days after ingestion of the E Coli infected food. You may or may not have a mild fever. If you get any of these symtoms, please contact your doctor immediately. Small children and the elderly are especially vulnerable to dehydrating very quickly and should be attended to by a medical professional immediately.

To find out more about the E Coli infection or to keep up with the latest news, please do a search online or listen to or watch your local news. At times like this, it is very important to know what's going on and keep up with news reports.

God bless,
Administrator
